Why You're Always Tired and What to Do About It
Let’s be honest: many of us are exhausted, not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We’re constantly told to do more, be more, and give more, leaving our nervous systems in a state of overdrive. But here’s the truth: healing doesn’t come from hustling harder. It comes from slowing down and returning to yourself.
As a mom, my mental to-do list never ends. I'm juggling the household, the kids, their activities, social events, grocery lists, what we need for the house, clothes—it’s a lot. As well as my career and side projects. The mental clutter builds up, and some days it feels like too much. I used to have an incredible memory, but lately, I’ve noticed it slipping. I know it’s likely from the constant overload of information—not just from daily responsibilities, but also from the nonstop input we get from our phones, texts, and endless scrolling on social media. It’s no wonder our minds feel foggy. I know I’m not alone, I was talking to my friends the other day and we all expressed how we get overstimulated so easily now and always so exhausted.
Overwhelm isn’t a time management issue. It’s a signal. It’s your body and mind telling you something is out of alignment. The world needs your light, but not at the cost of your spark.
1. Regulate Before You React
Overwhelm lives in the nervous system. When you’re in a constant fight or flight state, everything feels urgent. Pause. Take deep, intentional breaths. Place a hand on your heart and belly. Let yourself arrive in the present moment because in presence, chaos softens.
2. Honor Your Energy Cycles
You are not a machine. Your energy ebbs and flows. Notice when you feel most alert or depleted and plan your day accordingly. Your body carries innate wisdom. Let it guide you.
3. Do Less With More Intention
Overwhelm thrives in clutter: mental, emotional, and physical. Simplify. Ask yourself what truly matters. Journal to clear the mental noise and release what’s weighing you down. Productivity isn't about doing more. It's about doing what aligns.
4. Fuel Yourself Body and Soul
Fatigue is often rooted in poor sleep, nutrient depletion, or emotional stagnation. Nourish yourself with whole foods, hydration, rest, and mindful movement. Somatic practices like stretching, shaking, and walking in nature can move stuck energy and restore vitality.
5. Set Boundaries Without Guilt
Saying yes to everyone and everything is a fast track to burnout. Protect your peace with boundaries that reflect your values. Boundaries aren’t selfish. They are spiritual self-respect.
6. Reframe Rest as Medicine
Rest is not laziness. It is sacred. Your nervous system, creativity, and focus depend on it. I get nap shamed for my 30-minute midday reset, and while I know not everyone has that privilege, it’s been essential for restoring my presence and energy. If rest is available to you, take it, and take it without guilt.
Simple and Powerful Energy-Cleansing Practices
When you feel scattered or drained, your energy field may be holding on to stress or external energy. These grounding rituals can help:
Connect with Nature: Walk barefoot on grass, sit under a tree, or breathe fresh air. Let the Earth recalibrate your nervous system.
Tree Healing: Rest your back against a tree or touch it with intention. Trees are ancient beings with powerful grounding energy.
Water Rituals: Bathe with Epsom salt or essential oils. Visualize stress washing away in the shower. Even standing in the rain can be purifying.
Sacred Smoke: Use sage, palo santo, or incense to cleanse your aura. Move the smoke gently around your body.
Sound Healing: Use a singing bowl, tuning fork, or chant. Sound shifts stagnant energy and raises your frequency.
Breathwork: Conscious breathing resets your nervous system. A few deep breaths can anchor you back into your body.
Daily Check-In: Place your hand on your heart. Ask, "What am I holding that isn’t mine?" Visualize releasing it with your exhale.
You are not lazy. You are not failing. You are tired because you've been carrying too much without pause. But you don’t need to stay in that cycle. Choose presence over pressure. Choose alignment over achievement.
You are your own sanctuary.
You’re allowed to rest.
You’re allowed to feel whole again.
Until next time, take care of yourself!
